Functions Of The Board

Section 24 of the Sabah  Cultural  Board  Enactment  (Amendments: (2010)(2017) provides the following functions of the Board:

  1. to organize, arrange and coordinate trainings, seminars, workshops, forums, courses, lectures, culture researches or any other activities for the development of culture;

  2. to conserve and preserve culture including to establish a mechanism for cultural conservation and giving advice, provide consultations or expertise to cultural bodies;

  3. to assist in, and encourage the development of local ethnic handicrafts;  

  4. to establish, maintain, coordinate and promote cultural centers and art galleries within or outside Sabah; 

  5. to establish a working relationships with any cultural body relating to culture within or outside Sabah; and

  6. to do all such matters as may be incidental to or consequential upon the discharge of its functions under this Enactment.

 

SECTOR FUNCTIONS

1. MANAGEMENT SECTOR

This sector plays an important role as a support sector for the overall operations of the Sabah State Cultural Board, covering administration, human resources, marketing, information technology, audit, and finance.

2. ARTS AND CULTURAL DEVELOPMENT SECTOR

This sector focuses on non-physical development, involving policy planning and implementation, international relations, research, training and skills development, events, cultural tourism, and strengthening efforts in accordance with Sections 24(a), (b), (c), (e), and 24A of the Sabah State Cultural Board Enactment 1996.

3. CULTURAL CENTRES DEVELOPMENT SECTOR

This sector focuses on physical development, such as land and building development in the respective areas, in accordance with Section 24(d) of the Sabah State Cultural Board Enactment. The sector also manages Cultural Centres and Ethnic Galleries, including any premises or assets involving land and buildings entrusted to the Sabah State Cultural Board. To promote and nurture arts and cultural activities, this sector also coordinates the administration of District Ethnic Galleries, collaborates with district cultural bodies, and organizes/coordinates programmes at the district level.

 

STAKEHOLDERS

  • Cultural Bodies from 35 ethnic groups and 217 sub-ethnic groups identified under the Second Schedule of the Sabah Native Affairs Enactment 1992 (Amendment 2016).

  • Government departments and agencies.

“Cultural Body” means any association, organization, collection, group, company, enterprise, institution, or Cultural Centre that carries out cultural activities in the State of Sabah.
